Hi all.
I've got this role-playing game that's been sitting on my shelf for a while, and I am really itching to play it. It's a fantasy RPG called The Burning Wheel. It's more 'gritty' than something like D&D, and it's a very character-driven game: Personal goals and beliefs are at the forefront of the system. The setting material is vague, so that people can make whatever they'd have the most fun with.
The only downside to the game is that it can take some time/effort to learn the rules, and I only have one copy of them (though the two core rulebooks are only $25 for both). So I'd probably only want to run the game for two or three people, due to lack of rulebooks, and the desire to learn the system better myself by not overloading on players and having too much to manage.
Let me know if you're interested!

Is this something you're hoping to run this summer?

I will run Burning Wheel any time, anywhere!
Really though, I'm just eager to learn how to play, because it seems like an awesome game, so I'm willing to run it for anyone who wants to give it a try. Summer, fall, whenever!

We haven't tried 4.0 yet, but we could do that too if folks are interested.

In case it matters to anyone, I also have the setting book for Burning Wheel that facilitates playing in Heian era Japan (with eastern fantasy stuff).

This thread is for discussion of Burning Wheel- make a new thread if you'd like to start a D&D 4.0 game.

Characters are made using a "lifepath" system. You basically track your character's life up to that point in order to determine what skills they've picked up on the way. Maybe you were born in a poor village, and then became a conscript in the army, and then rose in the ranks as an officer. Or maybe you were born as a noble, and then became a squire, and then a knight.
The races in the core books are humans, elves, dwarves, and orcs. They're more like Tolkien versions of these races than D&D versions. In the Heian era Japan setting, everyone is a human. (Other "races" do exist but they're mostly monsters... kitsune, tengu, oni, and so on.)
